Data Management Director, Global Research Technologies

About the Department & the Position

Reporting to Vice President of Structure, Bioinformatics and Data Science in Global Research Technologies, the data manager will be responsible for working cross functionally with Data Science and Bioinformatics teams, IT organisation and end-users to identify data anomalies and devise a data quality validation process and reports to proactively identify and address issues. This role will work across both commercial and internally derived data assets from the entire value chain in early research covering Protein Design, Engineering, Production, Pharmacology as well as data derived from our Bioinformatics activities.

You have an understanding of the Pharmaceutical business within our core therapeutic areas within Diabetes, CVD, NASH, Haemophilia and other serious chronic diseases . Special emphasis will be on data from early research activities leading to lead candidate selections of new drugs and target discovery within bioinformatics. You will work closely with employees and management teams within our Data Science & Bioinformatics area, our IT organisation and several stakeholders in our early research organisations, Global Research Technology & Global Drug Discovery. You will ensure that data management is compatible with future requirements for adv. analytics approaches (Machine Learning ) for both internal and external data and in accordance with systems used for data registration and analysis.

You will perform data investigations in terms of data quality assessment and be instrumental in identifying issues regarding in particular metadata generation that needs mitigation. You will partner with key stakeholders in functional areas to understand data challenges and root causes of data quality and compliance problems. You will develop data quality improvement plans working together with business and IT teams, develop and maintain measures to ensure that data quality is within acceptable range.

You will be a key driver and member in a cross-organisational data governance task force providing input into best practices for processing and provisioning scientific data.

You will ensure that all changes to data systems are thoroughly vetted and QC processes embedded in operational processes if needed.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Life Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Science or other technical degree on similar level is required.
  • 5+ years of related experience with data management in the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • 2+ years of analytics experience identifying data trends and delivering insights.
  • Strong professional experience in life sciences, consulting, modern data science technology with progressively increasing responsibility; strong understanding of technology, business systems
  • Strong understanding of several aspects of Data in Drug Discovery and development incl. deep understanding of Pharmaceutical industry functions, in particular regarding data workflows and all relevant matters regarding generation and application of meta data within R&D organisations
  • Hands on experience with manipulating data and identifying data trends. Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, change management and consulting skills
  • Solid hands on knowledge of SQL, R, and Data Warehouse or lake analytical tools.
  • Proactive approach to meeting business needs and identifying business opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork & collaboration skills
  • Ability to work and achieve objectives independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with project management,change management and agile principles. Ability to manage shifting priorities is a must.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
